x-ray

X-rays

X-Ray are generally good at looking at bones & they are also good at looking at inside the abdomen Ultrasound is in most situatuations good at looking at soft tissues such as the heart and organs in the abdomen and other parts of the body, often used together they can bevery powerful tools in investigating any problem.

Airedale Veterinary group has invested in a new Digital X-ray system in 2012. A Digital X-System has considerable advantages over X-ray film. It is a lot quicker, which makes it safer for the pet, especially as it is usual to have to sedate or anaesthetise a pet to X-ray them. The quicker we can take the rays & check them the sooner your pet can wake up. Also the quality of digital is so good. It is very easy to manipulate a digital X ray image which means that often a more accurate diagnosis can be made. For example, if we X-ray the abdomen (tummy) some areas will be too light & some too dark. This is a bit like taking a photograph in a room using flash, some parts of the picture might be too light & some parts too dark. A digital X-ray image, like a digital photographic image, can be manipulated so that the dark areas can be made lighter & the light areas can be made darker. The contrast can also be changed. This allows the vet to get far more information from a X-ray image.

Digital X-rays are used diagnostically in many conditions. Thoracic radiography will allow the evaluation of the size of the heart and can show changes in the lung field.
Abdominal radiographs are best known for showing up swallowed foreign bodies. Skeletal X-rays may help with the diagnosis of lameness conditions. We take X-rays for dogs, X-rays for cats, we even X-ray Guinea-Pigs & mice
